FAQ: What you should know before installing Windows XP SP3

To paraphrase -- and, at the same time, contradict -- Winston Churchill, although this isn't the end of Windows XP, it's certainly the beginning of the end. But we come not to bury XP, but to praise it -- and to answer a few last-minute questions now that service pack 3 is really, truly, yes-indeed available to anyone who wants it.

jweav2000< if you have a dell computer ,this is what I had to do with that ,I lost mine to and, without that (HD) and the (OS) to repair geees Sorry to tell you this/, for what I had to do was a windows XP Home Edition service pack 2
Reinstalation CD in the ram thats the first thing you do...
(2).... Turn off your computer let it set 3 to 5 mins...
(3).... If you had a Dell Computer Hit F12 till another page opens up and, you will see a list of things in there..
(4).... In there you will see setup strol down till you get to ( SETUP ) then click on it now ,...
when, you do that it will dissapear you will see nothing on next page ... thats the time you see configring your computer
(5)... You will need to tap any key to run on the Winndows XP (CD) and you got to do it fast ...
tap any key and watch it takes off
and, all you need to do is follow the what it says,
now you will have to format the hard drive
this is easy if you can follow it good..
Nortan securty are mcafee dont use they will fight I know

ok here we go.. this is the 2nd part to do
and if u got a dell computer you go it made it wont take but for me 45mins to reinstall the computer .)

now once that is done loading your windows xp
you will it ask you to restart your computer dont let it
reBoot itself Leave the CD in the ramm dont take it out
when you see start up from CD dont LET it go on its own
tap on nothin
then you will be ask to repair or reinstall a Fresh copy of windows click esc are the enter botton tryin to rember.
Next another page will follow
heres where u need to follow what it says
u should see your hard drive there
and you want to delete that hard drive just watch and read closely
and you can create a new one ...
after you do that read it closely
and follow everytthing then it should be formatin your harddrive once thats do it will show you need to reboot your computer let it go all by itself with the winxp cd in it ///// when you see boot from cd (DON you have to do it all over from the VERY begainning so lol
and it will start your fresh copy of windows and, with the ND/ OS being new and,you will need to regerster with MICROSOFT and it will give you that chance to do that .
oo just before you get to there ,when you see it start cleannin out the files before the computer reboots make sure You Take out the WinXP (CD) out of the ram
And when the rebooting the computer it will reboot from (windows) not your CD_RAM........

OK this is what You need in CD,s if you have a DELL Computer...............................................

1 OPERATING SYSTEM Reinstallation CD
Microsoft windows XP Home EDition
including Service Pack 2
------------------------------------------------------------ 2nd one is ?
-Divers and Utilities on top CD
Dell Dimension ResoureCD
If you had a dell heres the Link for Dell
http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

then you look for Drivers & Downloads click that
and you will need to do your service tag/or by ur computer and if you know what dell computer you have then you will find all your drivers you need there...
This is what I use all the time
It came with more CDs Like 8 of them but I use only 2 cds is all i need... Good Luck .....

Got the Microsoft Updates

Got the Microsoft Updates Ready To Install prompt two days ago and ran the SP3 update on my HP Pavilion Laptop. My laptop had been running a bit sluggish lately. After running SP3 I've noticed a remarkable improvement in performance. Quicker boot times, faster response time launching programs, etc.
I run Norton Internet Security and SpyDoctor on my machine and am very conscious about keeping it tuned (defragged, virus/spybot scanned, driver updates, patched, etc). I'm a computer security engineer.
If you've been taking care of your computer as well as you do your car or home, most of you won't notice anything but an improvement in performance.
This is my experience.

I am about to buy a used

I am about to buy a used computer that has SP3 and has no anti-virus software installed. I just lost my laptop due to viruses and I am not sure what to do as far as downloading anti-vrus software. Won't the fact that I get on the internet to download it will open it to viruses? What should I do?

Antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy.

I have tried so many different types of scans to help keep my PC running at its best and one thing that I discovered is that they all tend to find the same types of bugs. The main difference between them all is the price that you pay. Recently I discovered Search-and-destroy Antispyware at http://www.Search-and-destroy.com and I really like it a lot. Antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy is one of the best scans I have ever used and I’m sure that you will be very happy with it as well. Go ahead and give it a try, you will be glad you did!

How to Play WMV Video on Mac

WMV Files
WMV (Window Media Video) is a compressed video file format developed by Microsoft. WMV is generally packed into the ASF container format, and can also be put into the AVI or Matroska. The respective file extensions for ASF, AVI and Martoska container is .WMV, .AVI, .MKV. The most common players for playing WMV files are Window Media Player, Real Player and Media Player Classic, all of which are popular players under windows system.

Since its compatibility with Mac system is not very satisfying, many Mac users find it impossible for them to play the WMV videos with their players. But don't get the wrong idea that WMV file can't be played on Mac, it's just a little bit troublesome. This article introduces four most popular ways to play WMV videos on Mac.

VLC Media Player

Mac users can use VLC media player to play WMV files and the output quality is quite satisfying. This player is an open source, free software media player written by the VideoLAN project. I highly recommend this player as I think it's the most powerful media player ever! It supports a wide range of video and audio formats, as well as DVDs, Audio CDs VCDs and streaming protocols. Plus, it's one of the most platform-independent players available, with versions for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, Syllable, BSD, MorphOS, Solaris and Sharp Zaurus.

Flip4Mac
As mentioned in the above that Microsoft won't upgrade windows media player 9, Microsoft did offer an alternative for Mac users: Windows Media® Components for QuickTime - Flip4Mac, which is developed by Telestream. With this QuickTime component, you can play WMV and WMA files directly in QuickTime Player and watch streamed WMV videos.
If you want to edit, convert or encode the WMV files, they offer more commercial tools, but the price is relatively high and the WMV Studio Pro HD cost whooping $179.

WMV Converter
If you just want to play WMV videos on Mac, you can choose one of the above ways to do it. I personally prefer VLC player considering its powerful functions. But for converting WMV videos, a video conversion program is a more sensible choice. A video converter is like an integration of all video format components.
wmv to mov on mac wmv to quicktime on mac wmv to mp4 on mac wmv to iphone 3g s on mac wmv to flv on mac wmv to mp3 on mac wmv to itunes on mac
WMV Studio, which is one of the Flip 4 Mac component series, can do the conversion. It cost $49 but can only convert WMV to MOV file. In comparison, a video converter usually cost around $40. I got iSkysoft Video Converter for Mac at $35. It supports all video conversion on Mac, including convert WMV to MOV, MP4, iTunes, iMovie, etc. It's a pity that most of the video converters don't have a florid Mac-style interface and the output quality is not the state-of-the-art. Without better choice, we can still get a video converter. It generally meets our needs, although not for professional usage. Most importantly, the price is reasonable and I think it is worth my bucks. That why I get a video converter although I'm not a big fan of it. If you don't want to pay extra $49 for like AVI component, get a video converter.

AISO founders envisioned a Web hosting company that was environmentally friendly. While the company employed energy-efficient innovations like solar panels, its infrastructure produced unacceptable power and cooling requirements. Find out how AISO leveraged AMD technology to overcome their challenge in this case study white paper.

In this whitepaper, Scalar explores the opportunity to change the landscape with respect to mission critical databases built around Oracle. Leveraging technologies such as Linux, high-end commodity processing power and Oracle RAC technology to architect, design, build and maintain database infrastructure that delivers maximum availability, reliability and performance at a fraction of traditional cost.
