Facebook at Work: Stop or Support?
Network World just ran a story reporting a survey of about 200 human resources professionals at major companies. They found that only one in four actively blocks employee access to Facebook and other social networking sites. Yet 60 percent of companies contacted have no specific policy regarding Facebook and MySpace et al during the work day. Could be they'll block them when management finds out what people are actually doing during the day.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.

James, I couldn't agree with you more. As businesses seek out fresh young talent, they must allow them to use the tools they are accustomed to - social networking sites, personalized homepages, IM, etc.There is still some fog among IT and management execs about the policies they should adopt to enable employees to access these valuable tools, while protecting sensitive corporate information.
Yet the business value of leveraging Web 2.0 to reach customers, partners and other 3rd parties makes this decision a clear-cut prerogative. This is what we at WorkLight are constantly hearing from our customers.
