Snapping away recently with my lovely new digital camera, it occurred to me that the many megabytes of data I was chewing through as I shutter-bugged my way through the vineyard, would be so much more useful with the addition of some small number of bytes of well chosen meta-data.
Interesting post. Regarding the "where", I've seen devices that attach to a DSLR and can add GPS readings to the EXIF data of each photograph, so I'm sure we'll very soon be seeing the relevant hardware integrated into the camera body.
Another feature that some digital cameras have already is the ability to record voice annotations. The logical next step is to add voice recognition, to translate spoken keywords into EXIF metadata.

I have seen those GPS add-ons too. Very useful. I suspect they will become standard on some higher-end consumer cameras soon given the manic focus on auto-everything that drives a big segment of the camera industry.

You surely are recording metadata with your photos already, and the most important piece of it is the time.
Meanwhile, you were already recording lots of information about where you're going to be, where you were, and who else would be there. This information is in phone calls, emails, calendars, etc.
I want more links between the data I already gather.
