BB Storm

Took delivery last week and eagerly switched over from my trusty BB 8310.

Some great points and some v. poor ones. For some reason at least once a day the Storm switches off and resets itself - might be a software glitch but v. frustrating. Also has extremely poor battery life, less than 24 hours with moderate use. Even drains fast in standby.

Biggest probelm is the keyboard and typing on the move. Answering and creating emails and texts is no-where near as quick as the traditional keyboards - why oh why did they not offer a slide out keyboard?

Great looks, great features but fails on the essentials of the BB - typing emails. Went back to my 8310 after 4 days I'm afraid.

BlackBerry Storm Shortcuts

Ha! This is so helpful! Thank you very much! I just KNEW there had to be a way to delete multiple messages! Your other tips helped me too! What a pleasure it is to not FIGHT with my phone like I did with my old "smartphone". I love the Storm - keeping in touch is so much easier! Thanks again!

Storm Tips

Great help. I love this thing. I was able to show the keyboard doing the finger up, but couldn't hide the keyboard swiping the finger down. Any hints? Also, I'm not sure where the Globe key is. I only have a SYM key to the left of the space bar.
It took a bit of time getting use to it. I used to have the Motorola Q. If you think of it as a phone, it's not for you. It is so much more than that.
Are there ways to get more than 8 speed dials? (8 + vm) The Q had as many as needed.
Thanks again!

I just realized that I used

I just realized that I used to have the globe and now I don't. When you uninstall the other languages it probably disappears, since there is no use for it, and is replaced with the SYM key.

deleting a text

I have one rogue text message that I cannot seem to delete no mater what method I try. Any suggestions?

how to delete a text message

Pull the battery - wait 10 seconds - put it back. This is how to do a reset on the phone. There are also a couple of programs you can get that will reset the phone too.

If that doesn't work, download the new .75 Operating System and download / install it. It will completely rebuild the phone, and give you all of the updates. Go to google and type in 4.7.0.75 and you will be able to find it

Access Small Menu in Browser

I have found a great way to bring up the small menu window in the browser. While using the browser, tap (not click) the screen. The small menu with 5 buttons will pop up. This is a great way to access the pointer option as well as allowing you to easily zoom in and out, and switch view to column.

When you are finished using the menu, simply tap (not click) the screen again, and the menu will disappear.

This is great for allowing you to use the cursor option, which is much more precise then pan mode when trying to select options on the web.

Enjoy.

Also, if anyone can figure out a way to make the orientation switch faster it would be much appreciated.

BlackBerry Storm gets its first firmware update... But not 4 Mac

Guys, BlackBerry has released a new firmware (4.7.0.75) for the Storm. This release has Reduced lag and response time of the Storm. Users have reported that this release has made a huge difference in performance. Visit http://smartphone-guru.blogspot.com/2008/12/blackberry-storm-bug-fixes-with.html for a list of bugs fixed by the firmware update.

The only bad thing is that this release is not for Apple Mac users. Yep, BlackBerry does not support Apple Mac that well... visit http://smartphone-guru.blogspot.com/2008/12/blackberry-storm-firmware-upgrades.html for System Requirements.

you can do it OTA via

you can do it OTA via Options, Then advanced options, then wireless upgrade at the bottom. I have a mac and have no need to link my BB to my mac thanks to OTA feature being included.

HELP!

Is there a way to scroll up and down in the menus or other services via the "volume" up and down button on the right hand side of the Storm 9530? It really annoys me to not be able to! =]

HELP Someone

I love the blackberry functions but hate talking on the phone because the mute button always goes on. If I smile or my cheeck changes by a word I may be pronouncing, the phone mutes. I have lost two business deals. How do I turn this function off!!! MUTE off.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
