Small Business SEO- Can You Really Afford it?

Let's face it, when you look at it on paper, SEO is an expensive endeavor. Whether you do it yourself, use the services of a consultant, or hire someone else to do it for you, the cost can be overwhelming.

It's possible to find reasonably priced SEO services in the US

" Now days India is best known for Affordable SEO Services"

Sorry, whether it's fair or not, the reality is that nowadays India is best known for very poor-quality and spammy SEO.

But between a thousand bucks an hour on the one hand, and "affordable SEO services from India" that often involve nothing more than worthless comment spamming, on the other, lies a happy medium. As an SEO professional in DC, I base my fees on how difficult the work will be and what the expected ROI is. Most small businesses do not require very complicated SEO as they are not generally going after hyper-competitive niches.

SEO

I think the fairest way of choosing an seo company is to google "SEO" and it brings up all 230 million seo results and if you can get to the top of that tree its worth talking to them. If not use a recommended company as word of mouth is nearly as powerful as the internet. If you want advice on ebay and promoting your business that way I found a good site called www.makecashwithebay.co.uk that has some good tips.

Small Business SEO isn't always expensive

There are some seo web design companies and SEO agencies that do offer affordable pricing, the trick is finding a company that caters to small businesses. OrangeSoda.com for example offers affordable SEO services because they bill on a monthly basis anywhere from $100 up, making the payments more affordable.

SEO Costs

SEO does not have to be expensive. On my website www.bensykes.co.uk I have built an online calculayor that shows how much you should be paying for an SEO COnsultant for a certain keyword, the time scales involved and the level of competition.

SEO has such defined metrics, every click is monitored, that working out an acceptable ROI is a simple business.

Balanced SEO can Pay for Itself

The article is correct in their assumptions although every website starts out at a different level of SEO. By doing extensive keyword research SEO can actually pay for itself in very little time. By targeting long tail, less competitive keyphrases and working on the core terms as the process moves along, new sales can be developed to pay for the SEO campaign in no time.

But then

Of course, it depends what you're doing if you should do it yourself.

To say that none should do their own SEO is incorrect. We've been hired by people/companies to just proof their tactics and outline their forward steps. Some people can actually do it though in a lot of cases it's just not worth doing (and by that I mean - it's easier to just trust someone who knows what they're doing rather than try to learn to do it yourself.

Remember of course - once upon a time none of us knew SEO. it is learnable. :)

SEO

Since we coined a Wordpress theme named "Small Business SEO" I thought it only fitting to jump on board of this one. As one of the companies that ranks in the top 10 for SEO on Google, Yahoo and MSN, I think its fair to drop a comment.

My suggestion to anyone interested in SEO, think about your objectives. Is it to stand out, to be a thought leader or just to sell more products or services.

For each, a different tactic is required. Personally, I prefer to authority route, then you have more options if you intend to monetize them down the road.

However, if you just want to go the product or service route, then invest in creating a better website (meaning more solid site architecture, have a firm understanding of content and keyword usage and build links from a variety of sources).

Real SEO is and always be about authority, and that is only something which occurs after trust and quality have permeated your website through and through.

Small Business SEO

These days with the recession deep upon us and some people talking about depression you need SEO for your small business more than ever as you need to cut back on your marketing budget by finding an alternative to PPC. The sooner you start this the better because SEO can take a while - many months, sometimes years - to kick in to the extent you need it to.

Where Google Chrome security fails: the password
I heard mention that the Chrome OS will have some sort of encryption available a la bitlocker. If it's possible to encrypt personal data using another password or key, then it may have potential for very secure data.... And Ubuntu has an 'encrypt home directory' option, perhaps google should follow suit.
