A year in the clouds
If there was one big trend in 2008 -- and by that we mean the buzz phrase on the lips of every analyst and vendor -- it was cloud computing. As with all new IT trends, levels of adoption were low. But adoption of what, exactly? The most interesting thing about cloud computing is that arguments over its definition continue to rage even as customers pay actual money for it.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.

Catching the hype
This is all part of the cloud hype cycle and we're at the "technology trigger" phase. Everyone wants to be part of this profitable "next thing" before we hit the "peak of inflated expectations" phase and that's after all the big money were made by the early adopters. Cloud will continue to get press and thrown around in the media but the "plateau of producitivity" phase will take some time to formulate. Until then we should get comfortable with that phrase in 2009 and I believe it will eventually be part of the hybrid hosting model that wins out.大阪 リビルト
