I heard mention that the Chrome OS will have some sort of encryption available a la bitlocker. If it's possible to encrypt personal data using another password or key, then it may have potential for very secure data.... And Ubuntu has an 'encrypt home directory' option, perhaps google should follow suit.

Josh,Somebody already came up with a cost effective, elegant solution.
It's called the Dell Studio Desktop, and it smokes the Mac Mini in every aspect.

The one advantage is that it does have an HDMI output, I suppose -- it'd be nice to not have to mess with a separate audio out.

A cheaper alternative to Dell
I'm in the same situation as the author. I was also anxious to get a mini as media center for my new, big, full-hd, LCD screen. The current mini will not play 1080p (by looking at the specs). So I was waiting for a new one with GeForce graphics. But nothing was announced so I'm looking at alternatives.I found this: http://global.acer.com/products/desktop/asx1700.htm
A bit of a waste, not as nice as the mini, but the specs look good.
