Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.

Why would someone want a "supercomputer" that they could never upgrade?Poor Sony...
uuh... and I used to be such a Sony fan too... but anyone with any brains can see that what we have here is a dying dinosaur with one foot in the grave.I like my PS3, I primarily use it for bluray and the few exclusive games they offer, but after I bought my 360 and Wii ( out of lack of gaming frustration) my PS3 gets little attention..
Right now I am playing Killzone 2, which is a great game, but when you find your self saying, "I wish I could play this on my 360".. you know there is a problem..
I have gotten use to crappy ports of great games for the PS3, which is why my 360 gets all the attention now.
We are seeing a great old company in the last throws of it's existence, and it's very sad, but life goes on...

You do have the option of updating the harddrive.Other than that, if I want to buy a computer and attach it to my TV, yes it is doable, but just buying a PS3 costs less and gives me all the features I want from a multimedia computer (with very few exceptions).
The only reason why my PC is still attached to my PS3 is so that I can watch netflix on my TV. (Hopefully netflix will add ps3 support soon).
Once you can watch movies, play games, go online, watch online videos, and do about anything else you can think of, the average user doesn't see a need to upgrade.
No, the PS3 isn't an all out replacement for a computer, but it's a pretty nice package for a multimedia center.
Sony made the wrong call...
The PS3 may be a jack of all trades, but it certainly doesn't deliver well against it's competition on any front, accept as a Blu-ray player (it's still much better as a Blu-ray player than a couple of the standalones that are out there which are much cheaper than the PS3).Gaming? 360 blows it away with far more games, far more higher ranked games, and usually the best version of multiplat games... not to mention superior online, and better core features (for gaming)... all at a cheaper price.
Computing? Well shoot, I can get a laptop for nearly half the cost of a PS3 which is portable, and is far better for my computational needs, internet browsing, document reading/writing, etc...
Media center? Again, the 360 pretty much comes out on top here unless you want Blu-ray... Netflix streamed over a 360 is awesome, and with the PlayOn software, streaming Hulu, CBS, ESPN, and youtube has never been easier... not to mention it flawlessly interfaces with my Vista/XP machines and my Windows home server.
All in all, the PS3 is a good package, but it's not great at any one thing... other systems, and products blow it away for their specific uses... so really - why ever get one?

Because PS3 is selling and will continue to especially with the release of titles like KZ2 and a huge list of other exclusives set for 2009. Xbox what a joke, a media center from a company that makes crappy software. I'll pass on that. I'll get my audio & video gear from a company that MAKES AV gear. MS doesn't have any imagination to create any products, it can only buy them, ie; Halo, a mac game, it got scared when it saw it, it bought bungie. media center vista/xp weak crap that a stupid consumers would buy. I have gone through two xbox360s in little over a year. Everyone I know that has had a 360 no long does; they break. Someone was right when they said, "Disposable Console". For microsoft to drop their system to $199 was no big deal. A $299 PS3 is. I'm giving my 360 sh@t away!WINDOWS ON A PS3???

Its funny that the attacks seem to be directed towards the PS3. The console division of Sony isn't actually doing badly financially. Sony as a group however also owns banks, movie studies, television production and broadcasting companies, mobile telecoms, semi conductor manufacturers as well the electronic and gaming areas you are referring to... and lots more. I know the mobile phone part is doing particularly poorly at the moment (Sony Ericsson) and I expect the banking parts are feeling the pinch too.Basically what I am trying to say is that the losses for Sony aren't down to the game consoles they produce. Sony is a massive group of companies with gaming being one small part, so the fanboys shouldn't jump to conclusions.

the ps3 is a far better machine no online charge great games even better list for 2009 and its still in its early days just remember that the ps3 is still new with a long way to go.As for tec its got the lot as well i stream blu ray over using media server,from vista laptop to ps3 ,as for games well street fighter 4 is far better to play on ps3 than xbox due to control method and as for going online you dont have to pay for extra adapters and such ,like you do for xbox.

Poor Sony
I am not a fanboy of either console but I will have to say I have gone through 3 New Xbox 360's in the past two years and my PS3 (Purchased 1/9/2007) is still going strong. They know how to build hardware that works. At the end of the day the 360's life cycle is almost over and they still can't fix the RROD issues. Agian I do like both systems but if a game comes out for both platforms I have to go with PS3 because I know the system is not going to break.the PS3 isn't an all out
