Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.

Why they're excited
The media is in love with Apple because they're an interesting company to write about. Say Asus is up. Who cares? Does anybody know anything about Asus besides the fact that they make PCs that are difficult to pronounce?Apple on the other hand, is a company people can grok. Back in the mid 90s, you couldn't read a story about Apple without the phrase "the beleaguered Apple Computer" appearing in the first paragraph. You didn't see news stories about other companies. Sure, Dell was eating up market share, but Dell wasn't an interesting story.
I think the reason for this is the press has cast Apple in a David vs. Goliath fight against Microsoft. That kind of fight makes for a story readers/listeners/viewers can understand. The manufacturers of PCs running windows are play as big a part in that story as the folks who made Goliath's armor... by the way, who were those guys?
