Unable to keep up with its own success, AT&T blames customers for poor service

There is some justification to carriers' excuses about the data hoggery of smartphones: smartphones are data hogs, at least compared to dumb phones. AT&T goes further, bragging it signed up record numbers of users, then complaining they actually use the network.

Customers weren't thrilled when unlimited iPhone data plans ended, but none complained too much. Verizon got more expensive, but transparently. AT&T went with manipulation and cloaked accusations of data hoggery to push customers to tiered plans, or toward Verizon.
