Bio: As founder and president of Datotel, LLC, David Brown develops Datotel’s strategic direction and oversees the promotion of Datotel’s vast platform of products and services. Prior to the creation of Datotel, Brown spent five years working in the United States and the United Kingdom as a consultant for Oracle, specializing in large-scale enterprise systems integration. In 2004, Brown initiated the creation of Datotel - bringing quality private cloud computing, and colocation services to the St. Louis region along with his expertise in delivering top-tier IT systems. Today, Datotel is a carrier-class data center facility complemented with a full suite of IT services to manage technology systems with annual revenues in excess of $5m. Based in St. Louis, Mo., Datotel has a $10 million; state-of-the-art colocation facility built, managed and designed to provide IT infrastructures and systems a secure, stable and highly available environment in which to operate. Brown is an active board member of a number of organizations, including; Entrepreneurs Organization (EO), President of the Scottish St. Andrews Society, and the United Way of Greater St. Louis, where he participates on the Strategic Planning Committee. Brown is also an advisor on the St. Louis Post Dispatch Community Advisory Board and serves on the Washington University Olin Eliot Society committee. In 2007, he was presented by the Presidents Council on service and civic participation with the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for his commitment to strengthening our nation and making a difference through volunteer service. Brown holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honors in Information Systems Engineering and a Master of Information Management from Heriot-Watt University and Washington University in St. Louis respectively. Brown also holds a Masters in Business Administration from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society and the British Computer Society. Brown received the St. Louis Business Journal 30 under 30 award in 2005 and was recognized by the St Louis Small Business Monthly as 2009 Entrepreneur of the year.

  • Cloud computing is clearly worming its way into the enterprise, especially as a testing and development environment and as a platform for less than critical apps and services. But cloud vendors are, in short, still trying to grow up and become a platform for business-critical applications. They're already working on standards and security issues, improving service level agreements and encouraging vendors to embrace the meter of pricing based on software use -- not per-seat cost.
