    Bill Gates adds $100m, as Polio nears eradication [video]

    Microsoft-cofounder Bill Gates is increasing his foundation's commitment to eradicating Polio. At last week's World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Gates pledged more money to a global effort that appears close to eliminating the disease.

    I’ve now had some time to reflect on my first World Economic Forum, and I am already looking forward to returning to Davos next year. I wonder if that makes me a “Davos Man?” Regardless, I can say that my overarching emotion about the conference has been one of frustration.

    The fast moving wave that is social computing swept through Davos on Thursday in a session titled "Organizing the Unorganizable: Social Computing and the Enterprise." The interactive workshop assembled such luminaries as Paulo Coehlo, Jim Schwartz, Michael Arrington, Robert Scoble, Jimmy Wales, Matt Cohler, and Reid Hoffman, among others.

    IT got a share of the spotlight at the World Economic Forum in Davos Wednesday as a great force for good and for growth through automation, for the global empowerment of social computing and through innovations yet to come. But like the financial markets, IT needs transparency, collaboration and trust.

    Here I am, a Technology Pioneer 2009, traveling to my first World Economic Forum in Davos, by tube, plane, 3 Swiss trains, and a car. (I have it on good authority that some Wall Street types are still coming…but are arriving by bicycle for appearance’s sake).
