    When holiday promotional e-mail from Verizon listed the Motorola Droid 2 as having a 1.2GHz processor, we were mystified. Among the listed specifications of the Motorola Droid 2 we reviewed was a 1GHz TI OMAP processor. But the Droid 2 Global has a 1.2GHz processor so was the Droid 2 getting some sort of upgrade? Or was it simply a mix-up by Verizon? When the Verizon Wireless Website listed both the Droid 2 and the Droid 2 Global side-by-side as having 1.2GHz processors, we decided to investigate.

    New models of Android phones are coming at us so fast and furiously that it can be easy to forget the Motorola Droid is less than a year old. And now Droid 2 is coming. Do we really need a refresh this soon? Or is Verizon working some other angle?

    It was surely only the purest coincidence that Verizon, Motorola and Google introduced the Droid X smartphone the day before Apple's iPhone 4 shipped. And certainly, the companies' ability to get actual shipping units into reviewers' hands before most of them could see Apple's latest had not a whiff of calculation. Perish the thought.

    Verizon, Motorola, and Adobe have announced they will be introducing the next generation of Droid mobile devices on Wednesday, June 23. The Droid launch comes just one day before Apple officially launches iPhone 4 , the next-generation of Cupertino's super-popular smartphone. Adobe will be on hand at the Droid launch on June 23 presumably to tout the virtues of the much ballyhooed Flash Player 10.1 for mobile devices that is compatible with Android 2.2, Palm WebOS, and Symbian S60 systems.
