I remember "back in the day" Intel used to be the boss, and AMD was the CPU of choice for the budget minded. My personal laptop has an Intel processor, but frankly, I barely glanced at whether it was AMD or Intel, I was more concerned about display, features, speed, etc.

I would like to cut the telephone cord at my house and switch over to a VoIP system. It would save me hundreds of dollars per year, but my concern is the fastest internet service I can get where I live is DSL with 3Mbps download speed. Correction "up to 3Mbps". The reality is that when I do a speed test I almost always get 2.45Mbps.

Probably the USB hub is either unpowered, or perhaps underpowered. Bluetooth devices require power from the USB port, so the fact that it works while directly connected but not when connected to the hub is a pretty good clue. You didn't mention what else you are connecting to the hub, but since they are working I suspect they either

My daughter has a handheld game system that doesn't support WPA security for wireless connections. How would you set up a wireless network to allow it access without throwing security out the window? It is WEP compliant, but I would just as soon not have my wireless network security downgraded from WPA2 to WEP.

I saw a cheap, and I mean really cheap, tablet for sale. The specs say that it is running Android 2.6.36. I'm pretty familiar with Android, but I don't know this one, and a quick google search didn't tell me much. Does anyone know any details about Android 2.6.36?

While I'm not to the level of being a TV worthy horder, I generally don't throw away my electronics. Want to play an original ColecoVision? Come on over and we can play Donkey Kong, Jr. Want to use WordPerfect on a 1994 Acer computer with Windows 95? Let me just pull that out of the upstairs closest.

Lexmark just announced that it is stopping inkjet production. They are apparently going to continue selling their overpriced replacement cartridges for some time to come, however. I still have an inkjet printer at home, but I hate it because of the combination of short cartridge life and high cartridge cost.

There is a transfer app on many HTC phones, but I think it may only work Android to Android, and not with an iPhone. I don't have an HTC device handy to check on that, but since you obviously do, it might be worth giving a quick look to make sure.

I think that the link jimlynch posted covers the basics pretty well. One thing that I've found is how heavily biased website traffic generally is towards just a few pages out of many. I wouldn't be surprised if you find 90% of your website traffic is driven by 10% of your pages.

I just read that Windows 7 just passed XP as the most used Window OS. As we get ready for Windows 8, I have to wonder how much longer can people and companies keep using XP? I mean, it is an OS that has been around for a decade, and it is still the OS used by almost 42% of computers that were online last month. That is just amazing.

Well, first off, I have to disagree with your Coke and Pepsi example, I find them significantly different. Coke is more heavily carbonated, while Pepsi is flatter and more syrupy sweet. In short, Coke=yum, Pepsi=meh.

Microsoft sent out a press release touting a "major" announcement on Monday. We just had E3, and there was a Windows 8 preview event recently. Some of the press is reporting that MS is going to reveal a tablet to challenge the iPad. Is that it? That is somewhat interesting, I suppose.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of IT positions are being merged, so that companies try to get one hire that can perform what just a couple of years ago was the work of two individual employees. Look at productivity numbers.

I think it is an interesting experiment. Well, maybe experiment isn't exactly the right word. What I find appealing is that it is outside of the traditional financial infrastructure, and allows you to get away from your bank tracking every online transaction.

I am inclined to agree with jimlynch that it is a project for the living room. If they can combine the attributes of a tablet, smartphone, smart appliance controller and HDTV in a single device that brings computing power, entertainment and connectivity into a single device in the center of the home, it would be fantastic.

I put off some hardware purchases at the end of the year because HDD prices spiked due to shortages caused by flooding in Asia. Have manufactures been able to ramp up production to meed demand yet, or are supply shortages still an issue?
