  • Try benchmarking the DNS servers with something like Domain Name Speed Benchmark. Or just try Google Public DNS.

  • I don't see this as being functionally all that different from existing Chromebooks. A different OS (but not THAT different) and perhaps a very slightly lower price point, but that's about it. Remember you can get a bare bones Chromebook for $199 today, but I haven't see very many of those floating around.

  • Let me preface this by saving that I am not familiar with your specific model of laptop. So this is more an educated guess than certainty. That said, I don't see any reason why you can't, as long as it will physically fit and connect. The performance should be better (higher read/write speeds) with the hybrid drive.

  • Turns out all we had to do was wait for it to get to the US Senate. Unless it is something to keep them from waiting in line at the airport due to delays caused by the laws THEY passed, the odds are against a bill even being able to get an up or down vote.

  • It looks like this is an evolutionary release, and Canonical says they emphasized a reduced memory footprint and "significantly faster response times".  I don't think there are many UI changes.

  • Is there an easy way to use photoshop to colorize an old B&W image? I have some old family photos and want to do it for a relative of mine (don't worry, the source material will stay unaltered). I'd like to make it look pretty good, but I can't spend days getting it right and my photoshop skills are only servicable.

  • If you recall all the problems that Boeing has had with lithium ion batteries catching fire on the new Dreamliners, that may provide a clue to part of the reason. One of the places I order batteries from has an explanation on their website that pretty well sums it up:

  • Go into the registry editor (regedit), then go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

  • You can actually get by pretty well if you live where there is good WiFi coverage. Once your contract is up you can use it as a WiFi only device.  You mentioned you have an Android, and I've used a spare Android phone without contract for a couple of years as spare phone. To be able to text, IM, voice call, etc.

  • I know that the registry in Windows is changing all the time, but is there a straightforward way to see what specific changes a particular program is making? Thanks.

  • Photoshop has the ability to add a watermark, but it's a bit of a pain. You have to create text as a separate layer, determine transparency/blending/etc. Then once you have it down, if you want to do it in the future or create a batch watermark, you have to go into file>automate>batch. It's not hard really, just a bit of a pain.

  • I think one of the biggest things is the completely different file structure architecture. Unlike Windows, there is only one file tree, and everything is mounted to that tree - different drives, directories, everything.  It's a change, and may take some readjustment, but it really doesn't make things difficult, just different.

  • You have higher potential speeds, with 802.11n. 802.11g = up to 54Mbps, whereas 802.11n can only support up to 700Mbps. Keep in mind, those speeds are best case. The other main thing is that you are more likely to get a strong signal with "n" if it is operating in the 5Ghz radio spectrum.

  • Honestly, if you take a break, take a break. Some people can just grind through the day without stopping and clearing their cache so to speak, but not the majority of people I know, and certainly not me.

  • Does anyone know how to reset Unity configuration to default values?

  • Depends. Some certifications lay out specific requirements for pentesting. In general, I would mirror many certifications and say annually. If you make major changes to your network, I would think it would be wise to conduct penetration tests.

  • A lot of times you can avoid the need to actually sideload APKs through a USB connection or the SD card. First go into your SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS then check the box to allow UNKNOWN SOURCES to enable installation of apps that aren't from Google Play. The steps may vary a little depending on your version of Android.

  • What do you do when someone issues a false DCMA take down complaint about content you own?

  • You should be fine, Exchange 2013 will support Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010. Like you said, Microsoft has included support for the two previous versions of Exchange Server when a new version of Exhange is released.

  • ISPs are voluntarily adopting a "six strikes" plan coordinated with the MPAA and RIAA so that any time an entertainment business issues a copyright complaint, unsubstantiated or not, users accounts will be sanctioned.

  • I changed an article title in Joomla!, but it keeps reverting back to the old title. I'm wondering if I need to refresh the database to get rid of it, and if so, how do I do that?

  • There are a lot out there.  You didn't mention how old the kids were; what would be fun for one age might well be frustrating for younger children.

  • There is an Android app called Seeder that claims to reduce lag by ensuring that the entropy pool is constantly filled. Ok, but what is an entropy pool and what is it used for?

  • I'm not deaf, so I may not be exactly answering your question, but one of my friends is not a native English speaker, so when she comes over and we watch movies, we use Netflix because of the (generally) excellent captioning. It helps her follow the dialog. It was pretty recent that Netflix fully implemented closed captioning.
