    Apple has come a long way from the days when Steve Jobs told environmental protesters outside a MacWorld Expo to "get out of the computer business [and] go save some whales," but its latest flub over green standards shows that the company, which is so pitch perfect in desiging consumer electronic products, still doesn't quite get this green stuff yet.

    The Wall Street Journal’s Joel Schectman reported last week that Apple has asked environmental organization EPEAT to remove from its product registry all of the company’s 39 certified desktop computers, monitors, and laptops.

    Currently the U.S. doesn’t have a national law governing e-waste. As politicians try to pass legislation, many efforts simply "run out of gas." Thankfully, lack of consistent federal legislation doesn't mean that action hasn't already been taken.
