I saw the new Facebook phone already on sale for $0.99, a 99% discount in its price just a month after its release. Does this indicate that this concept of branded hardware tied to a company has already failed? I wonder if this could be the "high water mark" of single source social media, i.e.

Like any other operating system that becomes popular, Android is a target of individuals that want to install malware on devices. Earlier this week, Google removed thousands of apps from Google Play, although many of them were junk apps, and not specifically malware.

HTC's new One has what they are calling an UltraPixel camera. Is this something that is actually new (and improved!), or is it just a marketing department branding of existing technology?

ernard asks How to stop an Android phone from downloading Gmail attachments every time I connect to WiFi? How can I stop Gmail from starting downloads of attachments? A lot of times, I connect to Wi-Fi for a couple of minutes to check or download something, and when Gmail starts downloading attachments it slows things down, sometimes a lot. Any way to change this? My phone is a Kyocera with Andoid 4.0, incidentially.5 weeks 2 days ago

The news wires have been reporting the largest DDoS attack in history is taking place today against a company called Spamhaus. I haven't noticed much of an impact, but the news reports suggest that the effect is being felt by companies including Netflix. How can a single attack have such a wide impact?

Google's new note-taking application, Google Keep, has gone live. I've been using Evernote for well over a year, and am happy with it, but I'm all for simplification and Keep could potentially tie together my notes, calendar, email, photos and Google docs.

I was thinking about replacing a bad HDD on a desktop with an SSD or hybrid drive. Is there a compelling reason to go with the hybrid, or would an SSD be the better choice?

Newsblur is ok I guess, although I would prefer to continue using Google Reader.

I have a pretty old wireless router for my home network that's a 802.11g standard. Would it be worthwhile to replace it with a new 802.11n router? What differences would I be likely to notice?

I have an Android phone that is running 2.3 Gingerbread. Yeah, I know I'm kickin' it old school. I can seem to find a bluetooth keyboard that will work with it. I've seen USB keyboards for Android, but I can't seem to find one of those that is compatible for me either. Can I just get a USB keyboard and make it work?

I don't use EDB files really, but you could convert them to PST files using one of the myriad software options available, then use the Export to a File function on Outlook to export all of your files as CSVs, which would then allow you to use Excel or another spreadsheet to organize your data. Clunky process, at best, though.

I've read posts of other people having a similar issue in the past week or so. The solutions that they found were to: 1. Restarting their iPhone/iPad. 2. Force closing App Store and restarting it. 3. Updating apps through iTunes synch.

We've upgraded to the last two versions of Office (2007 and 2010), and it was a worthwhile upgrade both times, especially 2007 which offered a dramatically improved UI. What about Office 2013? If you've made the upgrade, was it a good use of resources?

Is there an option in the app to "mark all read"? I'm one of the 4 people in the world who doesn't use Facebook, so I'm pretty much speculating. Full disclosure and all that. Otherwise, maybe you can log on to Facebook through your desktop and change your push notification settings.

I've used Swype enough to get good at it, but I never found it all that much better. Different, and not worse, but not all that much better, except for one hand typing in portrait mode. Some people love it though. I checked out the beta of Snapkeys, and I found that intriguing.

Christmas is coming up, and I need to get a few small presents ($20 or less) as stocking stuffers and presents for my coworkers. Yeah, I know, weird right, but most of us actually like each other and are friends outside of work. Any suggestions?

I have a big scratch on the touchscreen of my HTC phone. It's not to the point of making it unusable or anything, but I can't help but see it constantly. It might as well be a neon green line on the screen as far as me not noticing it.

Sure you can. You will just have to download the iCloud Control Panel (free) and install it on your PC. Then you should be able to sync your data between your PC and iPhone, as well as access any music that you have purchased on iTunes. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455

One of the printers on my network just started giving a "50 service" error messages. Is it a network issue or a printer issue? What causes this message to suddenly start popping up and how can I fix it?

LOL, I think someone has been looking at the buy.com daily email deals this morning, because I just got one that listed a refurbished Pandigital tablet for $39.99. I just looked at the specs and sure enough, it says Android 2.6.36.

I was at my brother's house, and home network security came up. He claims that his NAT router makes it unnecessary for him to set up a firewall. Honestly NAT (Network Address Translation) is something that I'm just not that familiar with. Is he correct.

There are lots of registry cleaners around, obviously. The thing is, many of their claims remind me of the old snake oil salesmen in the vintage westerns I used to watch as a kid. "You there madam, with the Windows XP machine. Is you computer slower than it used to be? Do programs sometimes crash? Well, have I got a cure for you! Dr.

In addition to the common sense advice of just go ahead and change it, there are a number of reputable sites that allow you to see if your email shows in the mass of recent security breaches. You should be careful about where you check, but one site that is well known and reliable is https://shouldichangemypassword.com/
