Leading ad blocking app gets new feature: not blocking ads

Developers of Adblock Plus added a new function in the beta of the 2.0 version: the ability to allow 'non-intrusive' static, un-graphic, non-persistent ads to support advertisers who go that route rather than those whose ads behave more like spyware than marketing.

Study shows it's not possible to be too paranoid about web tracking

So many web sites are feeding so much private data on so many people so quickly that even the warped expectation that our privacy will be constantly invaded vastly underestimates the reality. There seems to be no hope in sight to even stem the tide, let alone turn it back.

The Do Not Track features in IE, Firefox and Chrome add a pleading note to your HTTP header asking that you not be taken advantage of.

The Wall Street Journal is obviously conflicted between the urge to help readers preserve their privacy and demand to help advertisers' violate it. Sandbagging the privacy-protection section is probably not the most subtle solution.
