The Android 1.5 update for G1 smartphones, dubbed "Cupcake," began arriving on some of the devices over-the-air Thursday, according to G1 owners reporting on blogs and forums.
T-Mobile USA sold 1 million G1 smartphones in the first six months since it went on the market, about one-third the number of Apple Inc. iPhones that sold in its first two quarters.
The fourth quarter launch of T-Mobile's G1, the first smartphone to use Google's Android OS, helped the handset's maker HTC nearly meet its earnings targets despite a sharp global economic downturn.
