GoDaddy, a boycott target for their support of the Stop Online Privacy Act, came out strongly anti-SOPA, and gained business during the "Dump GoDaddy Day."

Rabid opposition to SOPA from the core of its customer base, waffling on whether it will or won't support legislation it allegedly helped write and the failure to follow through on either support or opposition are making GoDaddy long-term enemies on both sides of a divisive issue.

Go Daddy rivals including Hover, Name.com, and Namecheap are still looking to capitalize on the world's largest domain registrar's initial decision to support the Stop Online Piracy Act. All four firms continue to offer discounted transfer costs and other enticements to convince website owners to transfer their business away from Go Daddy. A potential Go Daddy exodus could hit its climax Thursday, which has been proclaimed Move Your Domain Day by Namecheap. A thread on Reddit had previously called for a Go Daddy boycott on Thursday.

In the face of an avalanche of bad publicity, domain registrar GoDaddy is being accused by a competitor of dragging its feet on allowing customers to leave its service.

GoDaddy has raised the ire of the Internet--again. The Web domain registry firm is one of many publishers, studios, and other copyright holders who signed on in support of the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA), according to a list published by Gizmodo.

GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons made GoDaddy the one well known name among domain registrars with commercials full of jiggle and blogs filled with items chosen to attract more attention through outrage than wisdom. New investors may have changed all that.

Pioneering domain-name registrar Network Solutions is being acquired by Web.com Group, an Internet marketing and website services provider, for $560 million.

It'll be interesting to see how GoDaddy chief executive Bob Parsons handles the continued fallout from his recent "vacation" in Zimbabwe.
