Google I/O is so big it needs two keynotes! On Tuesday we heard all about Android and Google TV. Wednesday's keynote was devoted to Chrome and Chrome OS. And the first Chromebooks were announced!

Google Tasks API set to sync with third-party apps

Today at the Google I/O conference in Mountain View, California, the company unveiled a new API for Google Tasks, which will open up the tool to outside developers. While the announcement itself was a fairly geeky, programmer-grade event, it has broad implications for productivity-focused workers of all stripes.

During the first day of Google I/O, I roamed the App "Developers Sandbox" looking for the next big thing in apps. The companies exhibiting their apps were invited by Google, and many are very small companies that have been around only a couple of years. But they've all built something innovative on one Google development platform or another.

Google introduces Android 2.4: Meet Ice Cream Sandwich

Google unveiled Android 2.4 (deliciously nicknamed "Ice Cream Sandwich") at this morning's keynote at Google I/O in San Francisco. Ice Cream Sandwich brings the best features of Honeycomb to mobile phones. Still, other than a few intriguing demos, Google did not disclose many details about the update such as when it will be available to consumers.

iPhone trumps Android

Apple has a benefit that Google's Android doesn't -- complete control of the hardware. Several Android features are noted as 'hardware dependant'. And with complete control of the hardware, Apple can push out complete upgrades to every user simultaneously, whenever they want or need to. Android will out of necessity have a more limited upgrade cycle to allow the phone manufacturers to implement and test new code; manufacturers who also have other non-Android phones to deal with as well.
