New iPhone travel app aims to save right whales from Angry Ships

Right whales are big, slow, and dumb enough they don't realize colliding with a ship will kill them, not the ship. NOAA's new iPhone app helps ships avoid them instead. It's not Angry Birds, but if you travel in ways that make you worry about crashing into whales, it might work for you.

Researchers from MIT have found a way to persuade electrons to put out twice as much light as the electricity used by the LED they live in. They do it using good vibrations from the cooling matter around them.

Predicting the future, technologically provocative terms, will always stir up criticism. IBM takes a swing, but mostly misses. Predicting EEG-controlled mouse drivers will lead to mind reading is a stretch; to assume it's a good idea shows ignorance of how badly other people think.
