Back-to-school season is a great time to be a geek.

As summer begins to wane, the inevitability of returning to school looms. While this may be a depressing time for students and faculty, it is a joyous time to bargain-hunt for great electronics deals. Throughout the month of August, I'll be rounding up the best weekly tech specials retailers have to offer. A portal of "Back-to-school specials", if you will.

Need a Mac?

A new Mac is pretty much a requirement at some universities, especially if you're majoring in the fine or creative arts. At Apple.com, they've got a neat deal. If you're a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac with Apple education pricing from May 25 through September 7, 2010, you can get a free 8GB iPod touch. So a free Touch with a new Mac. Not a bad deal at all, especially if you were looking at Macs anyway.
