AMD launches next-generation mobile graphics processors

AMD Radeon HD 6500M and AMD Radeon HD 6300M

AMD today announced two new series of mobile graphics processors aimed at high-end and mid-range laptops: the AMD Radeon HD 6500M and the AMD Radeon HD 6300M.

The AMD HD 6300M is aimed at the mid-range section of the market. It can support DDR3 memory, at clock speeds between 800- and 900MHz with processor clock speeds of 500- to 700MHz.

Based on the TeraScale 2 Unified Processing Architecture the AMD HD 6500M, on the other hand, is a high-end product aimed at multimedia and gaming laptops. The 6500M can handle GDDR5 or DDR3 memory at a clock speed of 900MHz, and offers a processor clock speed between 500MHz and 650MHz.

The 6500M's impressive specs are completed by 400 stream processing units, 20 texture units, 8 colour ROP units and 32 Z/Stencil ROP nits.

Both series of mobile processor include technologies such as AMD HD3D, Direct X11 and AMD Eyefinity - the latter allowing the 6500M to support up to six displays simultaneously.

As yet we have no release date of pricing details for AMD's HD 6500M and HD 6300M.
