January 05, 2011, 4:54 PM — Coinciding with the launch of Intel's new 2nd Generation Core processors, AMD's Fusion processors, and the 2011 CES, Acer is unveiling a string of new laptops aimed at enthusiasts and gamers. The Aspire 5750, 5750G, and 7750G are available with Intel's new Core i7 2630QM mobile quad-core processor and plenty of other advanced options. The Aspire 5253, on the other hand, uses AMD's new dual-core E-350 CPU. It's not nearly as fast as Intel's new processors, but it promises longer battery life, better integrated graphics, and lower cost for the budget conscious.
These new Aspire laptops are available with graphics options from either AMD or Nvidia - and the 5750G will be the first laptop to market (Acer claims) with Nvidia's GeForce GT 540M graphics processor, including DirectX 11 and Optimus automatic graphics switching technology. The Aspire 7750G notebooks feature AMD's Radeon HD 6550 and 6650M graphics products. All three models are available with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, expandable to 8GB. The 5750 models are 15.6-inch laptops with a 1366 by 768 resolution display, while the 7750G features a 17.3-inch display with a resolution of 1600 by 900. Both feature Dolby Advanced Audio v2 virtual surround sound, and the 7750G is available with an optional Blu-ray drive.
The 5750 and 5750G will be available from "select retailers" in the coming days, starting at $899.99. The 7750G should be available at the same time, with the higher starting price of $1029.99.
Intel's not the only one getting its new processors in Acer's new laptops, though. AMD's new "Fusion" CPU (the platform code-named "Brazos") will find its way into a budget Acer Aspire 5253 series laptop. The 15.6-inch laptop will feature the highest-performance member of the new line, the E-350 dual-core CPU previously known by the code name "Zacate". Together with a 320GB hard drive and up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, the laptop should go on sale starting January 9th for a modest price of $449.99.
