Kindle and Raspberry Pi join forces in this wireless terminal hack

Kindleberry Wireless combines Raspberry Pi and Kindle hacks together into one great portable, wireless hackstation.

It's pretty obvious that we love hardware hacks, whether it be Kindles that gets jailbroken into makeshift displays or some amazing uses of the Raspberry Pi. Now one hacker named Max Ogden has combined these two great hack flavors into one ultimate combo he calls the Kindleberry Wireless.

Max says that he decided to build his wireless Kindleberry after staring at the reflection of the Sun on his laptop screen as he programmed outside. Wanting something better, our industrious hacker ended up mashing together a Kindle Paperwhite with a Raspberry Pi into a wireless terminal.

To build his system, Max connected his Raspberry Pi (running the Raspbian OS) to a power source that can last a whole week, as well as a Bluetooth-connected Apple keyboard. Meanwhile, the Kindle acts as a Wi-Fi "screen" by way of an SSH session on the Pi.

The whole thing fits into a pouch, and because it uses an e-paper screen, Max can code in the sunniest of weather. The only drawback to the system is a roughly 200-millisecond delay between when Max makes a keystroke and when it shows on the Kindle.

If you want to build your own Kindleberry Wireless, Max outlines the specifics of his build in greater detail on his site. For an even older school build, Max clearly states that he got the idea from the original Kindleberry Pi and improved on it by making it wireless.
