Fujitsu Siemens launches 'zero watt' monitors

Fujitsu Siemens has launched the "world's first zero-watt monitors."

The monitor maker backs up the statement by claiming the new Scenicview Premium Line Eco range features patent-pending power supplies that switch off completely in power-save mode.

That means during a typical day, with 8 hours use and 16 hours in standby mode, companies in the UK could save £6 per monitor per year, according to Fujitsu Siemens' calculations.

Two monitors are now available with the technology - the 20in P20W-5 ECO and the 22in P22W-5 ECO. The products will be sold across Europe, with prices starting at around £330 in the UK for the 20in model.

"Over the last year we have heard a lot of 'greenwash': unsubstantiated marketing claims about how new IT products are doing their bit to protect the environment. Today, with the introduction of these two new monitors, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is delivering products that are truly greener than any other monitor on the market, in both standby and operation - without a price premium.

Both also include Fujitsu Siemens's DisplayView AutoBright technology, which automatically adjusts monitor brightness to account for ambient light. Fujitsu said the technology offers additional power savings of up to 30 percent.

Fujitsu Siemens said it plans to launch 24in and 26in monitors featuring the 'zero-watt' technology in September.
