Google blocks Android games in South Korea

The company censors itself so the government doesn't block the entire app store nationwide

Google is now blocking access to the game category of its own Android Market in South Korea. The reason is that the Korean government threatened to block the entire Android Market to stop Google from violating local laws concerning the sale of games unvetted by government censors and raters.

South Korea is one of the world's most active game markets.

The move is the latest example of problems Google encounters around the world with governments trying to control or censor content. One accounting says at least one Google service is blocked in at least one-quarter of countries where Google does business.
