Is Howard Stern torrenting the movie 'Super 8'?

A copy of the movie is circulating on the torrents in advance of its DVD release, supposedly leaked by the celebrity.

An advance screener copy of the movie Super 8 is making the rounds on bit torrent sites this weekend, but with a unique twist: it might have Howard Stern's name watermarked on it.

While there's nothing particularly newsworthy about a movie appearing on bit torrent sites, TorrentFreak noticed when watching the pirated screener that along with the typical Paramount Studios watermark, the name "H. STERN" appeared in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

It's not uncommon for major studios to send advance screeners to media personalities like Stern -- and adding said celebrity's name to the watermark to prevent piracy -- so they can knowledgeably hype the film before its official DVD release.

The Web site Deadline New York spoke to unnamed Paramount "studio insiders" who confirmed that the Howard Stern show did receive an advance copy of Super 8 (directed by geek-fav J.J. Abrams and produced by geek-legend Steven Spielberg) but after conducting their own investigation, Paramount apparently did not find a connection between Howard Stern and the leaked film.

So either this is an embarrassing flub caused by Stern or someone on his staff, or it's just another one of Stern's publicity stunts, meant to capture the attention -- and perhaps admiration -- of nerds. I vote for the latter.
