Internet service for Fairpoint Communications Inc. customers in New Hampshire was down for most of the morning, but was expected to be resumed later Wednesday.
The cause of the outage was unknown, according to a customer service representative. Customers using DSL services for both voice and data appeared to be without both, according to one customer, a Computerworld reporter working in the southern part of the state.
The customer service representative said service had been out for the entire state of New Hampshire Wednesday morning and was still out as of 12:30 p.m. Eastern. He said the outage was expected to be repaired within 12 hours.
He would not say how many customers were affected.
Fairpoint is based in Charlotte, N.C., but company officials there could not be reached to comment. It has operations in 18 states, including New Hampshire, and serves more than 1.9 million customers in all.
