Yahoo to expand Facebook integration

Users of Facebook and Yahoo will find more ways to link their actions on those sites next year, as Yahoo prepares what it calls a deep integration of Facebook with services like Yahoo Mail and Yahoo News.

Currently, users can call up their Facebook activity streams and post status updates from the Yahoo home page. Yahoo also provides buttons to share certain Yahoo content on Facebook.

However, at some point in the first half of next year, a broader implementation of Facebook's Connect technology across Yahoo will increase the integration points between the two sites.

For example, users will be able to view the activity feeds of their Facebook contacts on Yahoo sites and update their Facebook status messages from multiple Yahoo pages, not just the home page. Yahoo will also simplify and expand the capabilities to share Yahoo content on Facebook.

"Yahoo's integration of Facebook Connect will provide you with richer experiences across the Yahoo products you use every day, such as Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Answers and Yahoo Sports," wrote Jim Stoneham, Yahoo's vice president of communities, in an official blog on Wednesday.
