Synology offers iSCSI on the cheap

While the Promise/DataCore combination offers an excellent feature set at a relatively low price, how about an 8TB RAID5 iSCSI system for $2,500? Synology makes the DS509+, a storage device intended as an SMB NAS system, but it supports iSCSI as well, and costs about $870 at Amazon.com.

Integrated NAS & IPSAN

Unified storage refers to a single storage system that supports both file and block level access. In other words, the storage subsystem can support NAS (file-based access) and iSCSI (block-based access) storage protocols simultaneously.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
