Last year, 24% of all IT jobs were posted on the character-limited site and 37% of employers say they'll research a candidate via social media.
Establishing a Twitter presence is a smart move that can give you a distinct advantage in finding or landing a job, but how do you expand your network?
One key piece of advice is interacting with influential people in your field, which can be easier said than done.
"The quickest and easiest way to develop a relevant Twitter community that grows your company is to find connectors and build relationships with them," notes Jason Kosarek of Social Media Examiner.
And one way to accomplish that, Kosarek notes, is Follwerwonk.
The app finds and ranks the influencers in your current network, identifying who is worth following. The site also lets you pinpoint your niche and find the best influencers in your specific area of interest.
Once you find your influencers, Kosarek has some advice: "Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you may not have the courage to connect with in real life. In my experience, people are surprisingly responsive on Twitter.
