Jenna Goudreau of Business Insider has found another area in which you can make a great impression: e-mail subject lines.
"Since e-mail is often the first point of contact for job seekers and hiring managers, the subject line can make all the difference," she notes. "It not only communicates who you are and what you want but also can be a marketing tool that shows off your qualifications and helps you stand out."

Want to impress a hiring manager swamped with e-mail? Write a time-saving, succinct message, starting right at the top.
"A typical inbox reveals about 60 characters of an e-mail’s subject line, while a mobile phone shows just 25 to 30 characters," says Amanda Augustine, career expert at TheLadders. She advises job hunters skip all unnecessary words like “hello” and “thanks,” and get right to the point in about six to eight words.

Given that half of e-mail is read on a mobile phone today, write as if your message will be read in the palm of someone's hand. At the very least, it forces you to be brief and to the point, always a plus.
Another tip: Put the most important words at the beginning of the subject line, so any extraneous details that may get cut off on a phone won't be a loss.
