December 08, 2011, 2:07 PM — Security software company McAfee has cut 250 jobs, or around three percent of the global workforce, in an effort to improve efficiencies.
UK staff may also be affected by the global redundancy programme.
"In order to better prepare the company for growth in 2012 we have made the difficult decision to reduce a small percentage of our global workforce.
"The reduction affects all functions of the company and is global in nature," said Ian Bain, spokesperson for McAfee.
Separately, the company announced the appointment of Stuart McClure as its worldwide CTO.
He was promoted from his role as senior VP and general manager of the risk and compliance business unit at McAfee, and also served as senior VP of global threats and research at McAfee Labs.
McClure joined McAfee in 2004 through the acquisition of Foundstone, a company he co-founded and where he was president and CTO.
He has already held executive and technical leadership positions at Ernst & Young, IDG and Kaiser Permanente.
McAfee was acquired by chipmaker Intel for $7.68 billion (£4.89 billion) in March 2011.
