October 23, 2012, 10:10 AM — The latest video news report from DigInfo News discusses a disaster-response robot that will help inspect the basements of the damaged Fukushima nuclear reactor buildings, which apparently have some small leaks in the underground areas.
According to this video, the Sakura robot needs to climb down stairs, use a camera to spot the leaks, and maybe listen for leaking water (in case the camera can't spot them), as well as carry equipment down there to fix the problems. Oh, yeah, and make sure that the robot itself is protected from radiation that is sure to be down there.
