  • Kodak sues HTC, Apple over patent infringement

    Struggling Eastman Kodak is alleging that Apple's and HTC's smartphones and tablets infringe on its digital imaging technology, and has filed a complaint and lawsuits with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, it said on Tuesday.

    The U.S. International Trade Commission handed down a split decision in Kodak’s high-stakes patent dispute with Apple and Research In Motion over the built-in cameras in smartphones late Thursday. The commission’s latest ruling sends the case back to an administrative law judge, with a final decision not expected until the end of August.

    Just after the Motorola MotoZine ZN5's global launch in China last week, I got my hands on the handset and took it for a spin around Beijing over the weekend. It's great as a camera, maybe not so much as a mobile communicator. The sun didn't shine for a moment during the two days, which made it less than optimum to test the phone's photographic capabilities, which were developed in cooperation with Kodak. Making images was a key part of Motorola's push for the phone, which is designed to facilitate social media.
