  • I was told today that Google was opening up the explorer program (the oddly clubbish name for people allowed to buy Google Glass) to everyone. I have to admit, I’m intrigued. Despite the mixed reaction to Glass, I think it could eventually be an important product. I’m not sure I am ready to spend $1500 to find out….but I might be.

  • I saw a headline today that the FCC is opening up additional wireless spectrum. Will this have any impact on the average consumer or business?

  • They used to call it “page faults.” It’s not really an error. Software has requested an address and the page where it resides isn’t still in main memory. Usually it has been swapped to virtual memory, (hard drive or SSD) and the OS will swap it back from virtual memory to physical memory.

  • At a meeting today, we were talking about developing a more mobile friendly website to reflect the way people are actually accessing websites today. There were I thought were some good suggestions, such as eliminating remaining Flash content.

  • If I switch from a conventional telephone system to VoIP, will there still be additional charges for long distance calls, or is that different with VoIP because the call is going over the internet instead of a telephone exchange?

  • We have two offices that need to videoconference about once a week, and limited needs beyond that although occasionally something does come up. We need something that has better audio and video quality than some kid skyping with his buddies, which, I have to say, is exactly where we are now - skype, off the shelf webcam and mics.

  • I don’t believe this is a significant shift away from Android for Samsung. They have made no secret that they have been developing Tizen for some time now, yet there appears to be a strong ongoing relationship with Google.

  • This setting only has an effect while watching a DVD (or a BR disc I suppose). Mosquito noise reduction was created for digital TV recordings, and helps reduce flicker that is generally caused by compression artifacts, but I think it is inevitable that it will blur the image slightly.

  • This is a fairly widespread issue. As you noted, you can restart to “fix” it. Another way to deal with it is to force quit. Here are step by step instructions from

  • When establishing a VPN, is one of these pretty much always the better choice, or are there variables that make it situation dependent?

  • It’s less database intensive to check the CAPTCHA than it is to check user login/account information. By having CAPTCHA checked first, if it is not correct, there is no need to go forward with the rest of the login operation.

  • I wouldn’t say that it is absolutely necessary to have both, both doing so adds another level of security. One of the main advantages of a hardware (router) firewall is that it is isolated from software on your PC. This becomes important if that PC becomes infected with malware, some of which can disable the software (PC) firewall.

  • I don’t know of anything that is quite as useful as Keyword Tool, but there are a few free alternatives that may help fill in the gap, especially if used in combination:   Bing Keyword Tool Ubersuggest

  • That’s hard to say. It seems pretty clear that a 4” screen has become something like a 32” TV - it’s an ok size….but a little small by today’s standards. On the other hand, that would require Apple to implicitly admit that they are following Samsung’s lead on screen sizes, when they have taken the position that 4” is the perfect screen size.

  • If I put together a gaming rig, how much should I budget for a good graphics card? I want to be able to see an improvement over a PS4/XBox One.

  • I'm going on vacation with my girlfriend shortly, and we are already taking plenty of stuff. I'd love to leave the camera at home and just use either her iPhone or my Android phone for photos. Probably the iPhone, since it takes better photos than my phone, but it is still not as good as a good "stand-alone" camera.

  • Yahoo admitted the attack “may have” impacted people outside of Europe, which is a pretty vague statement that I would interpret as “did.” So, yes, I would be somewhat concerned if I used Yahoo mail unless you use a Mac, since apparently only Windows machines were affected.

  • Really, the answer to your question is self-evident. If you are being underpaid for a person with you education, experience and abilities, then you will be able to find another position that pays you what you are actually worth. If not, well…..

  • Yes, you can do it. Pretty easily in fact. Go to the YouTube site and find the video that you want, then open it. Then add “pwn” to the URL. For example, this is a trailer for a game called Ni No Kuni:

  • Now that Google has added the capability for off-line editing and viewing, is Google Sheets good/powerful enough to use as your only spreadsheet? I had never really considered it before now.

  • The two legitimate concerns I hear are (1) do you have access to all of my personal things, and (2) if I agree to you having remote wipe privileges, will you delete all of my messages and photos when/if I leave the company. The answer should obviously be no to both, but I think they are right to ask about it.

  • Is there a simple way to find which old links are broken on a website. We have some pretty old blogs entries with links, and I’m sure some of them are bad. I’d rather not go back and check one by one (click...good, click….good, click….not good).

  • Twitter is a company that has never earned a single dollar in profit, as far as I know. Yet it priced its IPO at $26 per share, and as I type this just prior to the close of the market on Day 1, it is at $45.04. Is this a realistic value for Twitter? That’s a P/E ratio of something like 25 to 1.
