December 23, 2009, 10:19 AM — Google still isn't talking, but the Nexus One, a.k.a. Google Phone, has continued to pop up in leaked pictures and fuzzy videos. It is seeming more and more likely that this is a consumer product and not just a development system. The rumor of it being sold either unlocked or with a two year contract on a major carrier seems to still be holding firm.
Today Gizmodo has a hands on post and they call the Nexus One a Droid killer, saying its thinner, lighter and faster than Motorola's flagship Android handset (though without the physical keyboard).
Oddly, Gizmodo wasn't allowed to take any pictures or video; is this all seeming a bit overly dramatic for anyone else? One starts to wonder how many of these leaks and secret meetings are actually being orchestrated by Google HQ. Why is the quality so poor in so many of the videos and images we've seen? It seems almost deliberate, but maybe I just need to put on my tinfoil hat and wait it out until January 5th (the rumored announcement date).
In addition to the actual Nexus One hardware, Android hackers have gotten hold of an image of the Android 2.1 build running on the Nexus One and have gotten it to work on a Droid. Someone posted a video of this, and true to form, the vid is taken in someone's car with the phone resting on the videographer's thigh.
Here's video the Nexus One in operation (hopefully the video won't get taken down, as some earlier ones have):

[UPDATE: Engadget just posted full specs for the Nexus One. Apparently the phone will be offered via invitation on January 5th, with T-Mobile selling it at some later, yet to be determined date.]
