How to save money on mobile phone roaming fees

August 11, 2011, 1:01 PM — Many people have to travel abroad as part of their corporate IT duties. Unfortunately, mobile phone roaming fees can cost a company a lot of money over time.

Here are some tips to help you save your company money while traveling abroad.

1. Take advantage of Wi-Fi hot spots whenever possible. Make sure you have data roaming turned off until you are in a Wi-Fi hot spot.

2. Rent a Wi-Fi bubble that will let you connect to local signals.

3. Buy an international data package that will let you roam for much less money via pre-paid rates.

4. Use data compression applications that will help you get the most out of your data plan such as Onavo. You might also use free tools such as the Opera browser which offers free data compression.

There's no need to spend a fortune on international roaming fees if you take the time to plan your data needs carefully.
