February 07, 2013, 10:16 AM — Collaboration and mobile technologies are key contributors to creating a competitive advantage for long-term corporate sustainability, according to Computerworld's most recent "State of the Enterprise" survey.
IT departments are under pressure to manage users' expectations about how quickly these and other new technologies can be deployed as well as the business outcomes they will produce. But there's evidence that IT is becoming more adept at connecting technology investments -- even for infrastructure -- with business goals.
The majority of respondents cite collaboration tools and mobility as very important or critical to their companies' future. And they're acting accordingly. Close to half are in the process of deploying mobility solutions. Another 23% are generating value from their investments or expect to soon. Meanwhile, 42% are actively implementing collaboration technologies, and 30% are realizing, or about to realize, the benefits.
