Ad watch: Owning a Surface Pro will cause you to dance during boring office meetings

New ad campaign features young "workers" enjoying a tablet and hip hop

By

Microsoft launched its new ad campaign for the Surface Pro tablet by aiming its targets at the kids - you know, those 20-somethings that love things like hip-hop dancing and working in office buildings.

In this ad, which debuted last night during the Grammys, we get to see the versatility of the new tablet/notebook by watching as the young office workers dance around (and on) the conference table. Who knew work was so much fun?

Far be it from me to criticize this strategy - after all, I'm a 40-something Generation Xer who hates being marketed to in any way, so I'm going to usually dislike everything. But is this a way to get people excited using the tablet at work?

To be fair, this seems to be a continuation of the original Surface tablet (the Surface RT) and that ad campaign, which featured a bunch of college-age hipsters all dancing around enjoying their tablet (see below). In fact, the same guy is the centerpiece of this ad, as well. Maybe Microsoft is saying that its tablets can be used for fun and for work.

All I know is this - I need to brush up on my coffee grinder skills for that next 3 p.m. staff meeting.
