June 26, 2013, 10:10 AM — If you didn't yet read through the excellent blog post on mobility in health care from Mobile Enterprise 360 forum member Ranjani Rao, it is worth your time, especially if you are in the healthcare vertical. In both her original post as well as in a follow-on comment, Ranjani identifies areas where mobility can bring a lot of business and customer-care improvments to healthcare.
I wondered (in a comment) whether many healthcare operations avoid full-steam charges into mobility, given the inherent security and sensitivity needs surrounding just about every part of the data in a healthcare operation. Ranjani's response provided some great insight -- that mobility can help in a lot of ways without having to massively alter existing business operations.
"The first step to get started with mobility in a hospital is to identify the functional/operational areas that could be mobilized," she wrote in her comment response. Patient registration, nurse change-of-shift notes and customer satisfaction surveys, she said, could all be initial targets for mobility solutions. "Going mobile doesn't essentially mean replacing the core business applications. It only means accentuating the reachability of these core systems to access data anywhere, anytime and thus enabling better collaboration and faster decision making," she wrote.
Anyone else have more examples of mobility making a difference in health care?
