New 'Wind' netbook pairs SSD with hard disk
MSI, the makers of the much vaunted U100 'Wind' netbook, have announced a new version of the machine featuring both an SSD drive and a conventional hard disk.
MSI Wind NB U100 Mini-notebook
MSI's Wind NB U100 is one of the first Intel Atom-based mini-notebooks to appear. And like the Acer's Aspire One, it gives a clear idea of what the bargain-priced CPU can handle. Other components include 1GB of RAM, an 80GB 2.5-inch hard drive, and Windows XP--not too shabby for US$550. The Wind is roughly the size of a super-small ultraportable laptop, like Lenovo's IdeaPad U110, but mini-notebooks and ultraportables by no means overlap in price or performance.
MSI Wind mini-desktop with Intel's Atom to debut in July
A business version of Micro-Star International's (MSI) Wind mini-desktop PC should be available in Asia and Europe in July, as products are already in mass production, a company representative said Monday. The small desktops are designed with parts from mini-laptop PCs. They even carry the same 1.6GHz Intel Atom microprocessors as many of the mini-laptops coming out these days. MSI hopes businesses like the Wind desktops for their small size, low power consumption and quiet running since they require no fan for cooling.
