August 31, 2011, 2:07 PM — For many people, NASA is all about outer space exploration, but they also do a lot of work looking back on Earth and its issues. NASA's latest video provides details on its Visible/Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (or VIIRS), which helps scientists collect critical climate data on a range of topics, from water temperature to hurricanes to forest fires. The VIIRS is part of the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP), the prototype for the next generation of Earth-observing satellites that will monitor daily weather and long-term ozone levels.
