Apple removes 'stabbing app' for iPhone

Apple has been criticized for offering a 'stabbing game' for the iPhone in its App Store.

Slasher, which is made by a third party, plays the theme tune to the movie Pyscho and displays a cartoon image of a knife when the handset is moved in a 'stabbing' motion. Apple has now removed the app, which was available for 59 pence (US$1.20) in the Entertainment section of its App Store.

However, its unclear how the app became available as Apple claims every game featured on the App Store must be checked by Apple to ensure it does not infringe its terms and conditions.

The discovery comes just weeks after Facebook was forced to remove a stabbing action from its SuperPoke application.
