Broadband Internet, the last mile

This week's highlighted research:

ABI Research, "Fiber to the premises: Opportunities for active ethernet, passive optical network, digital and broadband loop carrier grade vendors and suppliers."

Forrester Research, "The battle for the digital home."

Gartner Group, "The real impact of WiMAX."

Broadband Internet will eventually become a commodity, available to every home in America, if not the world. Dial-up connections will, one day, go the way of Timex computers, programming with punch cards, and Studebaker automobiles. Unfortunately, that happy day has not arrived yet. There are still many places in the US and Europe with no broadband access, and here in Thailand, the only high-speed connection I can get to is in an Internet caf
