Here's how you can use the icons on the Dock to open files.

1. Click the file you want to open.

2. Drag it to the appropriate app icon on the Dock.

3. Your file will open in that app, and you can begin working with it.

Dragging and dropping files onto Dock icons can be a very fast way of opening files in applications. It's much faster than starting the application and then finding the file you want to open.
