Microsoft revs up enterprise consulting business

Microsoft Tuesday created a worldwide services organization, saying it is now ready to become a primary contractor for IT executives looking for Microsoft-centric consulting and professional services.

Microsoft said it is formally combining its Microsoft Consulting Services, which has more than 4,000 consultants worldwide, and its Product Support Services, which employs 9,000 support staff. Microsoft says it plans to expand the number of employees in the new service organization by 20% to 30% each year.

The combination is aimed at providing large enterprises with a Microsoft-led team that can design, implement and maintain complex e-commerce and Web platforms, namely Microsoft
