December 31, 2009, 10:03 AM — Yes, yet another Applet tablet rumor post. Can you tell it's been a slow tech news week? Understandable, given the holidays I suppose. Next week things should be a lot more exciting, with loads of product announcements coming out of CES.
On the other hand, it seems somehow fitting that my last blog entry for 2009 would be about Apple's semi-mythical (dare I say mystical?) tablet. I've been passing on rumors about it almost since Day One of the Technofile.
So today we have Fox News confirming an Apple event taking place in January, and their sources say it will "focus on the mobility space," which fits very nicely in with the various iTablet iPad iSlate iGuide rumors (I still say this is when Apple should bring back the iBook name, particularly if they're going to focus on e-books).
But wait, there's more! Electronista says ex Google China president Kai-fu Lee claims to have an "informed friend" who says we're back to a 10" device that resembles a large iPhone, and that it has a front facing camera for video chatting/conferencing. He also says the price should be under $1,000 US. Sheesh, I should hope so. This isn't a desktop replacement after all!
So there you have it, the last Apple Tablet rumor of 2009. I hope. There's still 14 hours left to the year where I am.
Here's wishing all my readers a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year, and thank you for reading The Technofile. 2010 is going to be an interesting year, with the continued adoption of e-readers & e-books, and this new breed of tablets coming. It'll be interesting to see if people trade in their netbooks for tablets. I'm just looking forward to being able to effortlessly surf the web while reclining on my living room couch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We still don't have flying cars. The least they can give us is lightweight one-handed web surfing device!
